NCPA Backs New Senate Bill to End Retroactive ‘DIR Fees,' Improve Medicare Transparency

Four U.S. Senators this week introduced bipartisan legislation to boost transparency in Medicare Part D drug spending and to prohibit retroactive "DIR fees" in response to concerns raised by National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) members and staff.

Prime Therapeutics Update

IACP continues to receive reports that Prime Therapeutics is cancelling contracts with pharmacies based on a calculation of their compounded drug claims versus their non-compounded drug claims. It appears these cancellation letters may be tied to certain relationships pharmacies have with certain PSAOs.

NCPA Sends Letter to OptumRx on VAWD Requirement

The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), along with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP), Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) and Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) sent a letter to OptumRx on September 9th.

"It has recently come to our attention that OptumRx has instituted a new requirement for its Network Pharmacy Providers. According to communications received by pharmacies and their wholesalers, effective October 1, 2016, it is our understanding that OptumRx Network Pharmacy Providers will be required to purchase prescription drugs only from VAWD- accredited wholesale distributors."
