Bloomberg BNA Quotes IACP & PCCA on the PEW Charitable Trust Compounding Study

On February 24, 2016, the Pew Charitable Trust released two reports, indicating discrepancies in how states oversee the practice of compounding medications.

According to Pew, the two reports--National Assessment of State Oversight of Sterile Drug Compounding and Best Practices for State Oversight of Drug Compounding--show enormous variation in state oversight of compounding and look at best practices for patient safety.

P&T Community Report: Confusion from the FDA on Compounding

The March 2016 edition of P&T Community explains how FDA has caused confusion as it tries to expand the list of useable Bulk Drug Substances.

"The efforts of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to come up with an expanded list of active ingredients that can be compounded in hospitals and drugstores in the absence of a formal “bulk drug substances” list have come under heavy fire. The agency has been slow to establish the bulk list. In its absence, compounders can use only a limited number of substances. But the agency cracked open a political hornet’s nest in October when it issued a draft guidance policy that allows hospitals and retail drugstores to use additional substances that will be entered on what will be known as List 1."
