Federal Health Care Reform Update - August 6, 2009
Dear P2C2 Member,
Health care reform currently is the U.S. Congress’s top priority, and P2C2 will help explain how it affects pharmacy compounding and your continued access to personalized medication solutions. Click here to access the Web page explaining health care reform as it relates to compounded medicines.
The House of Representatives recently approved yet another version of H.R. 3200, as approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. A similar bill has already been approved by the House Committee on Ways and Means and also by the House Committee on Education and Labor. The three versions will now be merged and await consideration on the House floor after the August recess period. The House has adjourned for the remainder of August. In the U.S. Senate, the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (H.E.L.P.) has also approved a version of health care reform. However, the main focus on the legislation is now centered in the Senate Finance Committee, which will likely approve a drastically different bill than was approved by the Senate H.E.L.P. Committee. The Senate Finance Committee has been courting a bi-partisan group of senators in efforts to come up with a more moderate bill. Action in the Senate Finance Committee has been delayed until after the August recess. The Senate plans to adjourn for its recess later this week. IACP and P2C2 are actively working on both the Senate and House legislation to ensure that your access to personalized medication solutions are not adversely affected by the legislation. In particular, we’re working with House and Senate staff to get some language corrected before the respective bills go to the House and Senate floor for final action. We have developed a comprehensive list of pharmacy-related provisions in the House and Senate bills.
Please stay tuned. We will let you know if we need you to contact your elected members of Congress. And of course we will keep you up-to-date on the health care debate and how it affects your access to compounded medicines. Thank you for being a part of P2C2.
