What has IACP Done for You Lately?
Share |

This is an important year in IACP’s history – it’s our 25th anniversary of serving you and the pharmacy compounding profession! An entire quarter century spent ensuring your patients have continued access to the compounded medications upon which they rely.

IACP is Your Steady and Loyal Voice for Compounding

For the past 25 years, IACP has:

Lobbied Congress for a more favorable and fair environment for compounding
 Worked to ensure that enacted legislation is being implemented as Congress fully
Created strategic alliances – most importantly – the DQSA Coalition – to form strategic
physician, prescriber and pharmacy allies, and an unprecedented united front to defend
and advance pharmacy compounding;
Ensured FDA does not overreach into the practice of pharmacy compounding; strongly
supporting that State Boards continue to have regulatory jurisdiction;
Spoken up loudly to defend and promote compounding pharmacists and the value you
bring to each and every patient and the practitioners who serve them.

Did You Know?

Keeping IACP and pharmacy compounding top of mind on Capitol Hill is an ongoing challenge
and a considerable investment. There’s an old saying in D.C. – “if you don’t have a seat at the
table, you’re on the menu.”

On average, IACP spends $1,000 a day just in lobbying and regulatory surveillance. And, when
you consider the legislative/regulatory environment of the last several years – this investment has
become even more critical and costly.

What has IACP been Doing for You?

In the past twelve months, IACP has made great strides to continue to protect, promote and
advance pharmacy compounding.

The DQSA Coalition continues to be strong as ever – bringing over thirty pharmacy,
prescriber and patient advocacy groups to the table every month to discuss compounding
issues and the best way to solve them. This partnership has strengthened and amplified
IACP’s voice on the Hill and the Coalition is working hard to “Fix DQSA” in 2017.
The IACP Board of Directors hired a new Executive Vice President, John Voliva, RPh, to
provide leadership to our organization. John has a deep pharmacy background – from
being a fourth generation pharmacist to owning and operating his own compounding-only
pharmacy for over thirteen years. He is a compounder, he has walked a day in your
shoes and knows the many challenges you face daily.
Re-launched our member-exclusive Compounders Stateside, keeping you up to date on
all legislative and regulatory activity occurring in your State.
Actively participated in all regulatory actions at the Federal level, from submitting
comments to FDA guidances, to attending Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee
meetings and participating in FDA listening sessions involving pharmacy stakeholders.

Many Challenges have been Faced. Many Still Lie Ahead.

Implementation of USP <800>. Positive lists. Negative lists. Compounding for office
administration. The MOU. FDA Inspections. Fixing DQSA. Changes to USP <797>. Insurance
billing issues. It has been a tumultuous time for compounders, but one thing is for certain. The
only way for our profession to survive and thrive in the coming years is to have a strong voice
advocating for you, your patients and your prescribers.

In the coming months, we look forward to re-launching our patient and prescriber advocacy
program. It is one of our key strategies to ensure Congress, FDA and State Boards of Pharmacy
know the importance of what we do and how we positively impact patients’ lives every day. We
are also exploring new and innovative ideas to expand our communication channels, to not only
keep you informed of the happenings in the industry, but to also reach out to the general public
about what compounding is and how they can benefit from our services.
We have many more ideas in the pipeline, however, all of these ideas require resources. And that
is where you can help.

Celebrate IACP’s 25th Anniversary and Help Build the Next 25!

It’s imperative that we keep the voice of compounding strong, loud and clear! We need your
help to do it. Along with 200 of our colleagues, we make financial support of IACP a routine
part of our yearly budget. We’re asking you today to do the same.

Please help us keep pharmacy compounding a viable option for patients. Help us keep a seat at the table with your continued
