It’s Not Too Late to Register and Attend IACP’s 20th Annual Compounders on Capitol Hill

IACP’s 20th Annual Compounders on Capitol Hill (CCH) will be held May 17-20, 2014 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. With an expected 400 total attendees in 2014, CCH brings together the top-level compounding pharmacists and technicians from across the country with the same goal – to protect pharmacy compounding. Don't miss the only pharmacy compounding event that takes our issues directly to Washington, D.C.'s doorstep.

SESSION HIGHLIGHT:
The Drug Quality & Security Act - HR 3204
8:00-9:00 a.m.
0201-9999-14-062-L04-P/T
This program is made possible through an unrestricted educational grant-in-aid from PCCA.
In late November, Congress enacted HR 3204 - The Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA). This bill reaffirms the federal authority over certain aspects of compounding as well as creates a new classification of federally registered compounders called “outsourcing facilities.” While there are still many unanswered questions about how this new legislation will affect the provision of customized medications to patients and prescribers, one thing is inevitable. There will be change. Hear from Washington insiders on how they think the 503A and 503B sections of DQSA will be implemented, what questions still remain to be answered, and what compounders should be thinking about as they examine their own professional and business practices to become and remain compliant.

At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to:

  • Discuss how the Drug Quality and Security Act is being implemented by the FDA and the concerns expressed by Congress about that process.
  • List three examples how the new legislation will affect the provision of customized medications by 503A “traditional compounders.”
  • List three examples of how the new legislation will affect the business of “office-use” sterile medications by 503B “outsourcing facilities.

Moderated by:  R. David Pore, JD, MA, Arnold & Porter LLP

Invited panelists:  Margaret Hamburg, M.D., Commissioner, US Food & Drug Administration (declined), Janet Woodcock, M.D., Director, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), US Food & Drug Administration (declined).

Program type:  Knowledge-Based
