The Drug Quality & Security Act - HR 3204
This program is made possible through an unrestricted educational grant-in-aid from PCCA.
In late November, Congress enacted HR 3204 - The Drug Quality
and Security Act (DQSA). This bill reaffirms the federal authority over
certain aspects of compounding as well as creates a new classification
of federally registered compounders called “outsourcing facilities.”
While there are still many unanswered questions about how this new
legislation will affect the provision of customized medications to
patients and prescribers, one thing is inevitable. There will be change.
Hear from Washington insiders on how they think the 503A and 503B
sections of DQSA will be implemented, what questions still remain to be
answered, and what compounders should be thinking about as they examine
their own professional and business practices to become and remain
At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to:
- Discuss how the Drug Quality and Security Act is being
implemented by the FDA and the concerns expressed by Congress about that
- List three examples how the
new legislation will affect the provision of customized medications by
503A “traditional compounders.”
- List three examples of how the
new legislation will affect the business of “office-use” sterile
medications by 503B “outsourcing facilities.
