From a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announcement -"Eight Florida residents were charged in an indictment that was unsealed today for their alleged participation in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme involving prescription compounding pharmacies located in the Tampa Bay, Florida, area and in Miami.

Currently, there is a bill in the Senate (SB 2700) called the “FDA and NIH Workforce Authorities Modernization Act” which would, among other things, exempt certain biologics and biosimilars from requiring to adhere to U.S. Pharmacopeial Standards. The letter was led by USP and signed on by the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, APhA, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, ASHP, the Biosimilars Council, NASPA, NCPA, NCPDP and IACP.
