IACP Membership Survey: Input on State and Federal Issues
Policymakers at the state and federal level are addressing the need for new or expanded pharmacy compounding oversight in light of the tragic outcome of New England Compounding Center's (NECC) meningitis outbreak. IACP has been actively engaged with lawmakers, policy makers and our colleagues at national and state pharmacy associations. As legislative and regulatory language is crafted, IACP has and will continue to provide input on that language to preserve the rights and abilities of pharmacists to engage in compounding of customized medication solutions.
Member Advisory: Let IACP Know of Drug Shortages
As you all know, we are in an intense period of education and re-education of the public, opinion leaders, and policy makers following the tragic failures at the New England Compounding Center. We are making progress in reinforcing the compounding profession’s commitment to high standards and the best patient care, while also informing the many who are unaware of the crucial role that compounding pharmacists play in the healthcare industry.
IACP Encourages CMS to Work with States on USP Compliance
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently issued an extensive document reviewing various payment aspects and adjustment of rates for carriers. Within that document (click here) is a section on compounding pharmacy claims. Relevant Section on Compounding begins on Page 136.
IACP has submitted a formal recommendation to CMS that it work with the states to require compliance within each state with United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) standards. Click here to read IACP's letter to CMS.
