Senate Votes For Cloture on HR 3204

At 6:15 PM EST this evening, the U.S. Senate voted 97 to 1 for cloture on HR 3204, the Drug Quality and Security Act, with only one negative vote (Vitter, R-LA) recorded.  This important procedural vote means that the next step will be a limited debate time of 30 hours prior to the entire bill going forward for a full floor vote.  Additionally, Senate Majority Leader Reid can choose to proceed with a motion for unanimous consent later this evening which, if accepted, means that the Senate could vote as soon as this evening on the full bill.

Latest Update as of 7:20 pm EST: Motion to proceed with debate scheduled for tomorrow/Wednesday afternoon.

IACP will continue to monitor this situation, and provide members with updates.
